History and Tradition — Where TEAL Began

While we pride ourselves on innovation, groundbreaking solutions that redefine the future are not possible without a tradition of success and a history upon which to reflect. Garey and Greg Willbanks embody this value, drawing from their own history and tradition to establish TEAL in 2004. The memories created and lessons learned growing up in Houston, Texas are integral in the colors and symbolism behind the TEAL name. While “TEAL” was the name of the Willbanks brothers’ beloved uncle, it’s also in the name of our guiding imagery, the green-winged teal duck of their childhood home.

While the launch of TEAL in 2004 brought about a shift in how owners thought about central plants, the foundation and fundamentals that made the platform successful went back nearly 30 years. As teenagers in the late 1970s, Garey and Greg worked for their parent’s growing boiler company – Willbanks & Associates – where they were immersed in all aspects of the business, experience that later made them the go-to boiler experts in Texas.

With a gained appreciation and thorough understanding of traditional boiler systems, they took over the family business in 1987. Their ability to identify possibilities and their courage to pursue innovation led Garey and Greg to establish TEAL in 2004, and guide the company towards a sustainable future.
